Cycling in Tuscany – Day 1
Gaiole in Chianti to San Gusme and back
September 14, 2019
Our day began with a fast train from Milan to Florence where we were picked up by our bike-riding tour company A’qto and driven an hour to our base for the next three days Gaiole in Chianti. Our accommodation was a very impressive B&B up a hill from the town center.
The first order of the day was lunch and a briefing on what to expect over the few days. Then it was off to get ready for our first ride, an afternoon in the Tuscan sunshine.

Our ride for the day was out to San Gusme and back. This was such a beautiful ride for our first ride in Tuscany. A few nice long climbs and some wonderful descents. We had a few regroup stops along the way always finding a shady spot as the temperature was in the high 20’s. After reaching San Gusme we turned around and backtracked the same route to our starting point. We then had a nice little kicker of about 500m to get back up the hill to our base. Fortunately, the accommodation has a refreshing and welcoming swimming pool to cool down. A very nice way to ease into our nine days in Tuscany
