Cycling the narrow Bangkok Alleyways
May 2017
Bangkok, the densely populated, traffic congested capital of Thailand is not one of the must do places to cycle on many people’s bucket list but then you would miss out on the richness of this wonderful city that you can only see by foot or more easily by bicycle.
Bike …
Distance: 11 km Elevation: 58 m Time: 1:20
We were staying at a hotel near the River City Bangkok. It just so happened that a bike tour company had it’s office just 500m from our hotel. Co van Kessel bike tours (https://www.covankessel.com/), touted as Bangkok’s original cycle tour company, promises to take you off the beaten track to see the real Bangkok.
As I only had the afternoon available I opted for the Classic 3-Hour cycle tour that explored the narrow alleyways, markets, and backstreets of Bangkok’s Chinatown. Crossing over the Chao Phraya River we then explored the more peaceful side of Bangkok, Thonburi, cycling through residential communities and visiting Buddhist temples.
As you can tell from the Strava map it was a rather windy ride but a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
… n Beers
I thought Thailand was mostly about Singha beer, and although it is everywhere I did manage to find some interesting craft beers at some of the more boutique restaurants and even in some of the local stores around our hotel. Interestingly the craft beers I had indicated they were produced and bottled in Australia although the label was clearly designed to look like it was local. Didn’t matter I enjoyed every beer I had – Maybe it was the heat and humidity that made them so refreshing?
