Cycling along the Canal du Midi
May 2016
We were staying in a gite on the banks of the Canal du Midi in a small town, Marseillette, which is just 15 km from the historic city of Carcassonne. Towpaths run alongside the canal providing a very pleasant walk, or in our case, a very pleasant cycle along the Canal du Midi.

This was no Tour de France. Our hosts at the gite provided us with a couple of mountain bikes and we cycled from one lock to the next and back. Apart from some slight rises to provide height for bridges to cross the canal, the towpath track is very very flat. The towpath we rode on was dirt with a few muddy holes thrown in to keep us on our toes. It was quite a windy day and we later found out that spring in the Aude region of France is the season of winds. It was a lovely ride along the canal and out into the countryside. We even got to witness some boats moving from one level of the canal to the next via a lock.

… n Beers
Once we got back to Marseillette, we found the only open bar in town and washed down a couple of local beers.
